Marie Steinmann

After graduating from a Rudolf Steiner school, Marie Steinmann studied graphic design in Hamburg and worked for several media agencies, where she was involved in animation, web design and print media. After a two-year stay in Dubai, she left the media world behind and traveled the world. Back in Berlin Marie worked for the research market of the TU Berlin, where she organised fairs and exhibitions as well as science shows for school children all over Germany.

In 2007, Marie Steinmann traveled to Kenya for the British organisation ANNO'S AFRICA, where she led art classes for children as part of a 6-week intensive workshop at a school in a non-formal settlement in Nairobi. Soon after, she accompanied other workshops in Nairobi and a township in Cape Town, South Africa.

Marie Steinmann also works as a freelance artist, in both drawings and video art. In 2017, she produced a video installation in Kibera / Nairobi. The protagonists of the work "There is a crack in everything" are five children based in the non-formal settlement. The complex 5-channel projection was first exhibited in 2018 in the group exhibition NGORONGORO 2 in Berlin and received strong media coverage, including in "Spiegel" and "ZeitMagazin". In 2021 she participated with a new video work ("Dance") in the highly acclaimed exhibition "Studio Berlin" at Berghain in Berlin.

Tom Tykwer

Tom Tykwer is a German film director, scriptwriter, music composer and film producer of movies such as Run Lola Run, Perfume - The Story of a Murderer and The International. With Lana and Lily Wachowski, he realized the science fiction film Cloud Atlas in 2012. Before Tom started making films himself, he began studying philosophy after moving to Berlin in 1985 and worked as a projectionist.

In 1988, he took over the programming of Berlin's "Moviemento" cinema, which he managed until the late 1990s. Tom Tykwer is founder and shareholder of the film production company X Filme Creative Pool GmbH.

Together with his wife Marie, Tom founded One Fine Day e. V. in 2008.

One Fine Day gave rise to the film production company ONE FINE DAY FILMS, which realises numerous film projects on location in Africa. With ONE FINE DAY FILMS, we have also developed - in cooperation with the BMZ - an initiative that gives young East African filmmakers a voice. The regularly held intensive workshops have now produced seven worldwide award-winning feature films, most notably "Nairobi Half Life" (2013), arguably the most watched Kenyan feature film of all time. ONE FINE DAY FILMS has been instrumental in helping the Kenyan film industry develop as an attractive economic field of work. Increasingly, international productions are now coming to Nairobi to benefit from the rapidly increased level of professionalism from local film crews.

Johanna Driest is a writer, manager and fundraiser. Johanna published four novels by the age of 21 whilst growing up in Ibiza and moved to Berlin in her early twenties discovering a world of art and galleries. Whilst completing her studies in art history, language and literature, she accepted a position as personal assistant to the art collector, Harald Falckenberg. This soon led to her next position as a manager of the contemporary art gallery Sexauer, where she successfully stayed for four years.

In 2021, Johanna started to work for One Fine Day as the project controller for the collaborative project with GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) as an important contribution to the construction of the Anno’s One Fine Day Arts Centre, which opened in Kibera, Nairobi in January 2021.

After a fruitful completion of this large undertaking, Johanna today works closely with Marie as the manager and fundraiser of the organisation. The shift between the sales of art to using art as a medium to empower the youth of Kibera has been a definitive moment for Johanna in her life and she has discovered a profoundly gratifying role within the One Fine Day organisation, where she continues to thrive.
