Mr. Gerd Müller, former German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development visiting our Project in Kibera

On August 16, 2019, Gerd Müller, former German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, visited our project in Kibera. Accompanied by his wife and a small delegation, he was welcomed by 300 students from our One Fine Day courses, who presented their skills in music, art, ballet, acrobatics and dance.
On a walking tour through Kibera we were able to give the Minister an insight into the special living conditions of the children, and finally the visit ended on our newly acquired property, on which we want to build our ARTS CENTRE and secure a permanent future for One Fine Day in Kibera.

The minister was very impressed by our project and by how committed ONE FINE DAY has been for the last ten years to change the difficult living conditions of the children in the largest non-formal settlement in East Africa for the better in the long run.
We thank him for the special visit.

THE ARTS CENTRE PROJECT

In collaboration by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and through private donations, we started the construction of a unique ARTS CENTRE in Kibera in March 2023.

With the ART CENTER, we are creating a sustainable sanctuary for our children and young adults, a refuge where they can feel safe and secure - and where they can express themselves. After 15 years of intensive collaboration in Kenya, the ARTS CENTRE represents a sustainable home for our projects. With awareness that arts and culture are the fourth pillar of sustainable development, increasing access to the arts is integral. We strive to provide this access to children at the grass root levels like Kibera and Mathare. We will provide an enabling environment for the children and young adults to express themselves in their own creative way.

“Kibera is a challenging environment, especially for young people – but it also holds a lot of opportunities  for young creatives to contribute to East Africa’s dynamic and innovative creative industries. The Art Center Kibera provides young people with access to skills and training to enable them to set foot in the creative sector and to tap into its immense potential for economic, social and digital transformation. This is why Germany supports the construction of the Arts Centre as well as several of its training programs,” said Sebastian Groth, the German Ambassador to Kenya, at the stone laying ceremony.

Here you can see the Arts Centre property with the old building. During the Corona Lockdown 2020, the ANNO'S ONE FINE DAY team fixed up the new property in Kibera to the point where smaller classes are taking place again daily and we can continue to be present during this difficult time.
